When I’m feeling depressed it can be hard to escape the dark cloud of hopelessness above my head.
But, I’ve found that reading uplifting scripture can help me see the light again and remember why God put me on this earth.
If it’s alright with you, I’d love to share a few of my favorite bible verses for dealing with depression, sadness, or anxiety.
Ready to find out what they are?
Let’s get started!
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
I can do all things through Christ which [strengthens] me.
I’m not going to pretend like dealing with depression is easy. It affects people in different ways and for some it may seem impossible to escape the hopelessness they feel.
However, researchers have spent an enormous amount of time studying depression and ways to eliminate it. After you read a few of my favorite scriptures I listed above, consider trying one of theses natural remedies.
Natural treatment ideas:
Remember, if you have any concerns about your health, always consult with a physician or other healthcare professional.
If you need to speak with someone about treatment options, please call the SAMHSA’s National Helpline (1-800-662-4357) or visit their website.
And now I’d like to hear from you.
Which Bible scripture for depression was most uplifting to you?
Are there any bible verses I should add to this list?
Either way, let me know by leaving a comment below right now.
