3 Spiritual Meanings of an Itchy Nose

Over centuries there have been many superstitions about having an itchy nose. The nose is a very important body part with many spiritual meanings.

In fact, God formed man by breathing life into his nostrils (Genesis 2:7). This special act makes the nose very symbolic of our relationship with God. It was God’s breath of life that turned man into a living soul.

Job 27:3 says “My life is yet whole in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils.” Not only did God breathe life into man during creation, but the spirit of God is always in our nose as we breathe.

So when you have an itchy nose it has a strong spiritual meaning and you should pay very close attention.

Here’s what it means when your nose itches:

3 Spiritual Meanings of an Itchy Nose

1. Someone is Coming to Visit You

One of the most common itchy nose superstitions says that this means someone is coming to visit you.

There are many versions of this superstition that vary depending on culture and beliefs. However, most versions of this superstition state that an itchy nose means a stranger will introduce themselves to you.

An itchy nose could also mean you will receive a visit from an angel or the holy spirit. Angels are sent by God to guard us in all ways (Psalm 91:11) and to deliver messages (Luke 1:19). So don’t be surprised if you start seeing signs that an angel is watching over you.

Depending on which side of your nose itches, you may receive a visit from a man or woman. If the left side of your nose itches, superstition says a man will visit you. On the other hand, if your nose itches on the right side you will receive a visit from a woman.

2. You Will Receive a Spiritual Gift

An itchy nose is a positive spiritual sign. When this happens be prepared to receive a spiritual gift.

Gifts come in many different forms, but gifts of the holy spirit include wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy and discernment. (1 Corinthians 12:7-11).

An itchy nose means you will receive the gift of discernment. This will give you supernatural knowledge to make proper judgement about people and spirits.

According to the superstition that an itchy nose means you will receive a visit from a stranger, you will also need the ability to know whether that person is good or evil.

The spiritual gift of discernment allows you to know whether you are dealing with an angel or a bad apple.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God." (1 John 4:1-2)

3. Be Grateful For What You Have

Every time your nose itches, it’s a reminder from God to be grateful for the gifts you’ve been given. He breathed life into our nostrils and we should show appreciation for his grace upon us.

Life is short and every minute is a gift. When my nose itches I immediately think of the spirit of God as I take a breath.

It can be easy to fall into our daily routines and forget about how special each day is. Remember to take a moment each day and be thankful for what you have as well as acknowledge those who have made sacrifices for you.

"Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude." ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Itchy Nose Superstition Meaning

Superstition is a term for beliefs or practices that are widely observed and shared by people in a culture, but which are not supported by evidence or logic. It comes from the Latin superstitio, which means “to stand over something,” and was originally used to describe the fear of demons or the gods that caused people to act irrationally.

There are people who believe that having an itchy nose means you’re going to get money. This is a “superstition” because there’s no real evidence for it; it’s just something people say.

There is an old English superstition that refers to the belief that an itchy nose was a sign of good fortune. It’s one of the oldest known superstitions in England, and is also found in other cultures around the world.

When you’ve got an itch somewhere on your body, it’s hard to resist the urge to scratch. But there’s a superstition that says it’s bad luck to do so.

I’ve never been able to figure out the origin of the superstition against scratching an itch. I can understand not doing it as a matter of manners.

I have a theory that this superstition developed because scratching gives a momentary feeling of relief that encourages you to do it more. So if you don’t want to scratch, the key is not to start out by scratching just a little bit.

The “itchy nose” superstition is a common belief that having an itchy nose indicates someone is talking about you. There are several variations on the superstition, including the belief that itching your nose will make it more likely that someone will talk about you.

We may think of superstitions as pointless relics of the past. But they are more basic than that; they are part of human nature. Superstition is something that is not thought but felt.

And behind every superstition, there is a story, which starts with noticing some correlation in the world.

The correlation might be between an action and a result; like throwing salt over your shoulder to make certain an unwelcome visitor will not return–or at least, not for a while.

Or the correlation might be between two things that seem to go together; like an itchy nose and bad luck–or good luck if you scratch it.

Causes of an Itchy Nose

Now that we know the meaning of an itchy nose, let’s discuss the potential causes. The medical term for the desire to scratch an itch is called pruritus.

Pruritus can be caused by many different factors. Some of the most common causes of an itchy nose include dry skin. Continued scratching can cause redness or bumps if left untreated.

Common causes of an itchy nose:

  • Dry skin
  • Sun burn
  • Nasal allergies
  • Inflammation
  • Common cold
  • Anxiety

If you have any concerns about your health, always consult with a physician or other healthcare professional.

Signs From Heaven That a Deceased Loved One is with You

Here are the 15 most common signs that a deceased loved one is with you:

1. Feathers on the Ground

The next time you pass by a feather on the ground, don’t ignore it. Feathers are one of the most common ways to receive messages from angels and deceased loved ones in heaven.

2. Finding Pennies and Dimes

One way that a deceased loved one might send you a sign is by placing pennies, dimes or quarters on the ground in front of you. I like to call them “pennies from heaven” and they are a special way to remember loved ones that have passed away.
