Let’s get started!

The Original St. Michael Prayer

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

This prayer to Michael the Archangel can be used to ask for protection when you need support.

A few reasons people use the St. Michael prayer include when they need:

  • Protection from evil
  • Protection from the devil
  • Protection from harm
  • Protection against demons
  • Protection of the Church

Why Pray to Saint Michael the Archangel to Defend Us in Battle?

The prayer to St. Michael was first said by Pope Leo XIII in 1884. He asked all Catholics to say this prayer in Low Mass to help protect the church during their battle against the devil.

Even though the St. Michael prayer is no longer recited during Catholic Mass, he is still considered the Guardian of the Church.

Saint Michael is thought to be the strongest of all the archangels because he successfully fought Satan in the book of Revelation:

β€œAnd there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelation 12:7-9 (KJV)

Michael is the only archangel mentioned in the Bible. He has the most power among the other angels and is considered the leader of God’s army.

What to Do After You Say the St. Michael Prayer

After saying a prayer to St. Michael many people sit and wait for a miracle to happen, but this is a big mistake.

Yes, the Bible gives us many examples of God working miracles in response to prayers. However, sometimes instead of working miracles on our behalf, God guides us in the right direction and asks us to glorify Him through our actions.

One way we can demonstrate God’s character for others is to take action and ask for help when we need protection.
